Will the electric motorcycle lithium battery be bad if left for a long time?

First of all, it is clear that the lithium battery will definitely be bad if it is placed for a long time and not charged. This can be avoided if the battery is recharged in time according to the power situation during placement.

So, why lithium batteries will be bad if left idle for a long time without charging? The reason mainly lies in the BMS (Battery Management System) and alarm power consumption, as well as the battery self-discharge caused by the battery over-discharge.

The electric car lithium batteries used in the market are generally battery packs, which will be equipped with BMS to monitor and intelligently manage them. The BMS will consume power when working, and the battery will run out of power over time.

In addition, many users will leave the battery in the car when the electric car is idle and not in use. At this time, the electric car alarm is still in the power consumption state, and the power consumption is much larger than the BMS.

In fact, even if both the BMS and the alarm are cut off, the lithium battery is still problematic when left uncharged for a long time, because there is always a little reaction inside the battery, or even a micro-short circuit – which will produce what we often call battery self-discharge.

The above three situations, when there is no timely replenishment of the battery, will cause over-discharge of the battery, further leading to the damage of the SEI film on the negative surface of the battery or even the disappearance of gas, thus damaging the battery and even bringing safety risks.

Therefore, when we do not use it for a long time, we should also remember to regularly check the power of the lithium battery and timely replenishment.
